The Tex Parte Blog is reporting on the results of the LexisNexis State of the Legal Industry Survey (a pdf of the survey is available on the Tex Parte Blog). The survey results say that 71 percent of in-house legal counsel believes that outside firms are doing too little to respond to the financial pressures clients are facing (is that surprising?). Close to 50% of in-house lawyers have asked their outside to lower fees, but only 18% have heeded the call. Fully 77% of outside counsel say that their clients are too focused on reducing costs at the expense of quality and long-term results. Fifty percent of in-house counsel believe that the recession is inducing a permanent change in billings practices. It doesn’t appear that outside counsel wanted to answer that particular question.
Until in-house counsel are willing to leave the marble floors behind and hire smaller firms with their lower overhead costs will any of these survey results change.
